Our approach
The Sofa Cycle, our framework launched in 2020, guides how we’re tackling this challenge and ensures we look at every impact of our operations and value chain.
We know that evolving to a circular economy will require new commercial and product models to prolong the life of our furniture and ensure it’s returned to DFS for refresh, repair and resale. Making this transition is a mammoth task, so we’re tackling it stage by stage, making sure that each step is operationally and commercially viable before moving ahead.
Some of these steps may seem small, but they’re culturally important and lay the foundations of the infrastructure we’ll need to succeed.

Waste
Addressing our use of resources and waste is also critical to building a circular DFS. In FY25, our total waste was 9429 tonnes, 5544 tonnes (59%) of which was recycled and 3535 tonnes (38%) was converted to energy.
Most of our rubbish is product packaging which is removed from customers’ homes at delivery. We recycle the majority but know we can do better.
One focus is a new waste programme at Sofa Delivery Company to improve landfill avoidance. The first phase of this initiative – to make sure every site has the right infrastructure to support different types of waste – is now complete. Next, we’re focusing on engaging colleagues to ensure better compliance. We’ve also established a new Waste & Packaging Working Group to look at the key drivers of waste, devise circular systems, and reduce the amount of material we use where possible.
