Our approach

Our stakeholders are at the heart of our responsible business approach. Their perspectives continue to shape our sustainability strategy. Our materiality assessment identifies and prioritises the environmental, social, and governance risks and opportunities that matter most to them and our business. This approach is essential to making sure their views are taken into account and that we consider the right sustainability issues in our strategic planning and decision-making.

As a result, our sustainability strategy is built around three pillars:

Our environment

We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact across our supply chain and operations to safeguard resources for future generations. We’re working hard to reach carbon Net Zero before 2050 and become a business built around the circular economy, guided by The Sofa Cycle.

Our environment

Our people

We’re committed to creating a great place to work where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to be themselves, develop and thrive.

Our people

Our communities

We’re also proud to be part of hundreds of local communities and we’re dedicated to helping each one flourish.

Our communities

Sustainable governance

We’re committed to conducting all our business honestly and ethically, acting professionally, fairly and with integrity in all our dealings and relationships.

This includes protecting human rights, managing climate risks and opportunities, preventing bribery and corruption, and prioritising cyber security and data privacy.

On the road to Net Zero

Reducing Scope 1 emissions from our fleet is a critical part of our journey to Net Zero. Managed by The Sofa Delivery Company, our fleet transition began with a shift in company car policy. By FY25, we had replaced all petrol and diesel models with hybrid or fully electric vehicles—meaning our entire 350-strong company car fleet is now low-emission.

We’ve also introduced an EV-only salary sacrifice scheme in partnership with Octopus Energy and encouraged colleagues to opt for a cash alternative to a company car. To support this transition, we launched an EV infrastructure replacement programme, installing chargers at key locations with a subsidised payment system.

In FY25, we also introduced our first electric and hybrid vans, including the zero-emission Volkswagen ID Buzz. Over the next four years, we plan to transition our 200-strong small van fleet to electric or hybrid models.

For larger vehicles, we are developing long-term strategies to trial alternative fuels, while continuing to invest in routing and scheduling tools to reduce mileage and fuel use.

Delivering with pride

We've seen some amazing internal Pride Month activity over the years, from fundraising and competitions, to the introduction of pronoun badges, and informative webinars about allyship.

Ensuring our people feel a true sense of belonging is important to us. So, when our LGBTQ+ & Allies Group said it wanted us to make a big statement of support to the community, we listened.

In 2025, we announced a formal partnership with Doncaster Pride that involves us:

Funding their Pride for All offering so that people with disabilities can enjoy attending the event;

The design and manufacture of a one-of-a-kind Pride sofa offered as a raffle prize to fundraise at the event;

Bespoke Pride wrapping of two DFS trucks to travel the country Delivering with Pride; and

A team to walk the Parade of Unity, proudly representing the Group and followed by one of the branded Pride vehicles.
